The 10th National Games will be held this year in the month of Falgun. The 123rd board meeting of the National Sports Council (NSC) held on Wednesday decided to organize the event from Falgun 1 to 7, according to one of the council members.
The games were originally planned to be held in Mangsir last year, but the date was postponed three times and later cancelled, making it impossible to organize the event in the previous fiscal year.
The new date was fixed after the appointment of the new Minister for Sports, Bablu Gupta.
The 9th National Games were held in Gandaki Province in 2079, and the flag was handed over to Karnali Province for hosting the 10th edition, which was supposed to take place in Mangsir 2081.
However, due to lack of infrastructure and other reasons, the event couldn’t be held on time. The date was first moved to Chaitra 2081, then again to Jestha 2082 citing financial issues, and later postponed indefinitely.
The recent board meeting also decided to recommend a reward of Rs 2.5 million to Nepal’s first international medalist, Jit Bahadur KC, to the Council of Ministers.
