An 11-year-old girl has died from scrub typhus in Palpa district. She was from Rainadevi Chhahara-1, according to the Palpa Health Office.
Health Office spokesperson Madhusudhan Bhattarai said the girl had been diagnosed with scrub typhus. She received primary treatment at Ridi Primary Health Center after suffering from fever and headache. She was then being taken to Tansen for further treatment but died on the way.
Jiban Rana, head of the health branch of Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality, explained that scrub typhus is an infectious disease spread through bites of small insects.
Patients with scrub typhus often show symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, cough, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and red eyes. If not treated on time, it can affect the brain, liver, and lungs, eventually leading to death.
According to the health office, 238 cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed in Palpa this year alone. Last year, 225 cases were recorded.
