Around 3,300 prisoners have escaped from the central jail in Sundhara.

Out of about 3,800 inmates, only around 500 remain inside now. Sources said about 100 prisoners are still in Bhadra Prison and around 100 in the women’s prison. The central block itself has about 300 left.

Among those who escaped is Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who was jailed for investigation in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.

Some prisoners have already started returning. So far, about 50 have come back, and more are expected to return.

According to security sources, inmates released from Nakkhu jail came to Sundhara around 10 PM and broke the prison. Police deployed for security fled towards the Army Headquarters, and only then the Nepal Army reached the jail. By that time, about 3,300 inmates had already escaped.
