All 50 people on board a plane that crashed in Russia are feared dead, according to reports.

British news agency Reuters said the Antonov An-24 aircraft, an old Soviet-era model, crashed in a forest near Tynda in Russia’s far eastern Amur region on Thursday.

Russian emergency officials said they have received early reports suggesting that no one on board survived the crash.

The plane, built in 1976, was nearly 50 years old. People in a helicopter saw flames in the forest and informed the authorities.

A video circulating on social media, though unverified, shows the plane crashed in a dense forest. The aircraft belonged to Angara Airlines in Siberia and was flying from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda. The plane reportedly lost contact with radar just before reaching Tynda.

Regional governor Vasily Orlov said the aircraft was carrying 43 passengers, including 5 children, and 6 crew members.

Russian emergency services official Yulia Petina wrote on Telegram that a Mi-8 helicopter from Rosaviatsia spotted the wreckage of the burning plane during a search operation.

Rescue teams are trying to reach the crash site. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and Russian authorities have launched an investigation.
