A passenger bus was swept away by a flooded river at Dumkibas in eastern Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway.
The bus (registration number: Na 1 Kha 4085) was traveling from the east toward Bardiya with 38 passengers, including three children, when it was swept away by the floodwaters of the Binayi River around 11 PM on Thursday night.
According to DSP Madhu Nepal of the District Police Office, all passengers on the bus were safely rescued.
The bus was later found about one kilometer downstream, said Inspector Rajan Timilsina of the Dumkibas Area Police Office.
The road had a temporary diversion after an overloaded Indian truck damaged a bridge last Poush (mid-December to mid-January). However, the diversion has frequently been washed away by heavy rains and flooding, causing regular traffic disruptions.
Due to the latest damage to the diversion, traffic is currently blocked. Vehicles heading from Dumkibas toward Daunne are stuck, as the muddy road has made it difficult for them to climb uphill.
