French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) suffered a surprising loss in their FIFA Club World Cup Group B match.

Brazilian club Botafogo FC defeated PSG 1–0. The only goal of the match came in the 36th minute when Igor Jesus scored from a pass by Jefferson Savarino.

Although PSG controlled most of the match, they couldn’t create many clear chances. PSG had around 75% possession and took 14 shots, but only two were on target. Botafogo’s goalkeeper, John, gave a standout performance and kept a clean sheet.

PSG coach Luis Enrique had rested several key players and gave opportunities to new faces. However, this decision is now being criticized after the unexpected result. Botafogo’s coach Renato Paiva said, “Football doesn’t always go as predicted—surprising results are always possible.”

With this win, Botafogo now leads Group B with 6 points from 2 matches. PSG and Atletico Madrid both have 3 points.

PSG now must win their final group match against Seattle Sounders to reach the knockout stage. Atletico Madrid also needs to beat Botafogo to qualify.
