Heavy rainfall since 3 AM on Friday has caused flooding in Bardiya’s Barbardiya Municipality–7, Dangpuruwa, affecting over 150 houses.

According to Pushkal Bik, coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee of Barbardiya Municipality, floodwaters from a nearby stream also killed two buffaloes and one ox, while another ox was swept away.

Security forces from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have reached the flooded areas and begun rescue operations. Barbardiya Municipality has also held an emergency meeting to discuss rescue and relief efforts, said Chief Administrative Officer Tikaram Gosai.

Members of the local disaster committee have been deployed in the affected areas. Similarly, areas in Thakurbaba Municipality Wards 1 and 4 have also experienced flooding, affecting around a dozen homes.

Locals said the flooding occurred because there was no proper drainage system. Thakurbaba Mayor Tilak Lamsal stated that water flowing from the Chure hills flooded more than a dozen houses.

Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that heavy rain has been recorded since 3 AM in various places like Latpur, Bargadahi, Rammapur, Ranijaruwa, and Kumragau. The Bardiya District Administration Office has issued a notice urging people living near rivers and streams to stay on high alert, as water levels are expected to rise.
