The Nepal Automobile Association (NASA Nepal) has announced that official approval will now be mandatory for organizing any motorsport events in the country.
In a public notice, NASA Nepal stated that events such as car and motorcycle racing, rallying, touring, karting, powerboating, and sim racing must now be approved by the association before they are held.
Executive Director Govinda Bhattarai said this step is based on existing Nepali laws, which require the involvement and approval of the authorized sports governing bodies for both national and international events.
He explained, “Getting approval through the official government channels is not only in everyone’s interest, but it’s also a legal and standard practice under current regulations.”
NASA Nepal added that many past motorsport events were conducted without proper approval, which led to various disputes. Therefore, to ensure safety and compliance, approval will now be strictly enforced.
According to Section 45 (1) of the National Sports Development Act 2077, no national or international sports competitions can be organized without the recommendation of the relevant sports association or federation, along with approval from the National Sports Council.
NASA Nepal is officially registered with the National Sports Council as the governing body for motorsports in Nepal and is also a member of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
President Dasharath Risal raised concerns that many racing, rally, and touring events have been held against national laws. He warned that such unauthorized activities pose serious risks to drivers, riders, and technical teams, and affect the growth, professionalism, and sustainability of motorsport and tourism in Nepal.
He added, “No careless actions will be tolerated in such high-risk sports. Events held purely for personal gain, without proper safety, training, and respect for sports values, will not be accepted by the association.”
