A massive flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Tuesday morning swept away the Miteri Bridge, which connects Nepal and China at the Rasuwagadhi border point. The flood also washed away new electric vehicles (EVs) parked at the nearby dry port.
Arjun Paudel, Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, told ekantipur that the flood caused severe damage. “The flood coming from the Chinese side has done significant damage,” he said. “The Miteri Bridge has been swept away, and the EVs at the dry port have also been carried off.”
He confirmed that people trapped in the flood have been rescued, including some security personnel who got stuck during the rescue operation. They have now been safely rescued.
Paudel added that residents in the lower belt have been asked to move to safer areas. “There are fears that some people might still be inside vehicles, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet,” he said. “There is a possibility they were swept away by the flood.”
While the damage appears to be major, exact figures are yet to come, he added. A Nepal Army helicopter has been called in for further rescue operations.
