18 Missing in Rasuwa Flood Triggered by Water Flow from China; Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A flood coming from the Chinese side has left 18 people missing in Rasuwa. So far, rescue teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have rescued 9 individuals.

According to the Armed Police Force, the missing include three members of Nepal Police stationed at the Area Police Office in Timure: Assistant Sub-Inspector Lal Bahadur Shrestha, and constables Munna Thakur and Lokendra Bohora.

Among the missing are six Chinese nationals. As per the APF’s list, the Chinese citizens are YU YUE, LI HUAQING, YANG CHUAN, YU HAI HANG, YOU XIAO QIU, and JOU YONG.

Other missing individuals include Nepali citizens: Jiban Chaudhary, Santosh Dait, Buddhi Ram Tharu, Laxmi Narayan Tharu, Suresh Tharu (all from Bardiya), Narendra BK (from Baglung), container driver Phurba Lama, mixer driver Govinda Moktan, and Hilux driver Lokman Tamang.

The flood, which occurred last night, damaged several key sites including the Nepal–China Friendship Bridge, the customs area, and dry port facilities. Seven electric vehicles (EVs) at the dry port were swept away, and damage was also reported at the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower dam and workers’ camp.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the affected areas.
