Nepalese telecom company Ncell has stopped its recent plan called ‘Sadhain On Crorepati’ after intervention by the regulator. Many companies launch different customer plans to promote their products, but Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) suddenly stepped in to stop Ncell’s plan.

Ncell said it started the plan with the regulator’s knowledge to reward its customers. Even though the plan was stopped from Shrawan 1 (mid-July), Ncell will continue to give prizes to customers who have already been declared winners. Ncell apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured that customers who participated during the plan period will still get their prizes as promised.

The regulator called Ncell’s plan a type of lottery. According to the Lottery Act 2025, such plans are not allowed. NTA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said they instructed Ncell to stop the plan because it was not in the best interest of customers.

Officials from the regulator also said that Ncell informed them about the ‘Crorepati’ plan but there was a delay in stopping it. The authority is currently studying what to do about such lottery cases and will decide within 15 to 20 days.

Ncell ran the ‘Sadhain On Crorepati’ plan fully for four weeks. During the fifth week, the regulator ordered the plan to stop immediately. From Sunday to Wednesday of the fifth week, ticket winners were announced live on Thursday. One winner of the bumper prize of one crore rupees was also declared.

Even though the regulator ordered a stop, Ncell said it will continue to give prizes to all announced winners as a responsible company. So far, Ncell has declared a total of 50 winners. Among them, 24 winners have already received their prize of one lakh rupees each. The other 26 winners are going through verification.

For verification, Ncell checks the winners’ lottery numbers, confirms whether they have Ncell SIM cards, and contacts them accordingly.
