Woman arrested in Surkhet for honey trap extortion

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in Surkhet for allegedly blackmailing a man and taking over 14 lakh rupees from him using a ‘honey trap’.

The accused has been identified as Shindu Chand, originally from Naumule Rural Municipality-8, Dailekh, and currently living in Birendranagar Municipality-9.

According to the District Police Office Surkhet, she was arrested on Tuesday from Birendranagar. Police spokesperson DSP Mohan Jung Budhathoki confirmed the arrest.

As per police, back in Bhadra 2081, Chand had called the victim to a hotel in Birendranagar-6, where they met and later had a consensual relationship.

Later, Chand allegedly started threatening the man by saying she would file a rape case against him and leak his private photos on social media if he didn’t pay her money.

The victim then reported the case to the police with evidence. Following this, a police team arrested Chand.

Initial investigation shows she took a total of Rs 14 lakh 25 thousand from the man through threats on multiple occasions.

Surkhet police said further investigation is ongoing on charges related to extortion.
