Chitwan National Park arrested 442 people last year for different crimes related to the park. Among them, 266 were for forest-related crimes and 176 for wildlife-related crimes.
According to park information officer Abhinash Thapa Magar, 8 people were arrested in rhino cases, 1 in tiger cases, 26 for wild boars, 3 for birds, 5 for deer, 126 for fish, 5 for stones and sand, 141 for grass cutting, and 87 for illegal fishing nets.
Also, 23 people were caught entering the park without permission, 6 entered restricted areas, 2 for snow leopard cases, 5 for leopard cases, and 4 for mushroom-related crimes.
Magar said 26 cases have been registered against those arrested. Four cases are in the district court, and the rest are in the park office. Cases in court include deer, rhino, and tiger-related crimes.
Out of the registered cases, 14 have been decided. These include 27 cases carried over from the previous year. Currently, 26 cases are still pending from the ongoing fiscal year.
