The Hayu family from Golanjor Rural Municipality–6 in Sindhuli, who were reported missing, have been found safe in Pokhara — but they say they won’t return to their home village.
According to Kaski police, the 16-member family had arrived in Pokhara last Saturday and were staying in rented rooms in two separate houses in Gagangauda, Pokhara–30. They initially stayed one night at Hotel Janani in Lakeside before moving out.
When contacted, the family told police they had been falling sick repeatedly in Sindhuli and left in search of a better place to live. “We kept getting sick there. So we came here for a fresh start,” police quoted them as saying.
The family also told police they do not want to go back. “They clearly said they don’t want to return to Sindhuli,” said SP Shyam Babu Oliya of Kaski District Police. “They’ve requested to be allowed to stay somewhere else.”
They are currently staying in the homes of two locals, claiming to have come to Pokhara for construction work.
The police have taken them under their supervision and are continuing to investigate.
