Nintendo has quietly released Mario Paint on Nintendo Switch Online, bringing the classic SNES art and music game to a new generation — and it now includes proper mouse support.

Originally launched in 1992, Mario Paint turns your console into a digital art studio, letting players draw, animate, and compose music. On the Switch, you can now use Joy-Con 2 as a pointer or plug in a USB mouse for a more authentic experience. This works on both the original Switch and the OLED model, and it doesn’t require the Expansion Pack anyone with a base Nintendo Switch Online subscription can access the game.

The timing of the release is interesting. With the launch of Switch 2, Nintendo may be trying to expand its creative lineup early in the console’s life.

In addition to drawing tools and a music studio, the Switch version retains fan-favorite features like the Coloring Book and Gnat Attack, a mini-game designed to improve mouse control.

Nintendo has also quietly added mouse support to two more retro titles: Mario’s Super Picross and Nobunaga’s Ambition, both available through Switch Online.

The addition of mouse-compatible retro games could signal more creative or strategy titles coming to the service in the near future.
