The District Administration Office in Bardiya has started investigating people who submitted false information to get dual Nepali citizenship.

As part of the investigation, the office has already cancelled four citizenship certificates. All four were officially revoked in the Nepali month of Asar (June–July), according to the office.

One of the cancelled cases is of Sunil KC from Barbardiya Municipality-8, who had received a citizenship certificate on Bhadra 15, 2078 (August 31, 2021). According to Binaya KC, head of the legal department at the office, Sunil submitted false details to obtain citizenship again after his original one was cancelled.

Similarly, Maya Khadka of the former Magaragadhi VDC had received a citizenship certificate using the name Maya Lama on Shrawan 24, 2070 (August 8, 2013), which was later cancelled.

Citizenship certificates of Ramkumari Tharu and Shri Maya Sunar of Madhuwan Municipality-7 were also cancelled after it was found they held dual citizenship.

Assistant Chief District Officer Roshan Kumar Kadayat said that these citizenships were revoked following an investigation and decision by the local administration. He also mentioned that six more similar cases are currently under investigation.
