A flood in the Bichyya River on Wednesday night in Himali Rural Municipality-1, Bajura district, has swept away 11 houses.
The District Police Office, Bajura, said seven houses were completely damaged, while 17 others are at high risk of flooding. Farmlands and shops in Ward No. 1 have also been affected by the disaster.
Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary said Wards No. 1, 3, and 5 were the worst hit. A police team from Kawadi Police Post has visited the flood-affected areas to collect information.
Houses belonging to Nawaraj Buda, Devilal Chadara, Birbal Chadara, Ajay Chadara, Heusara Lwar, and Angabir Chadara in Ward No. 5 were washed away by the flood, Inspector Chaudhary added.
The flood also damaged public offices, healthcare centers, schools, and other infrastructures, including a suspension bridge, in Ward No. 1.
Govinda Bahadur Malla, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, has led a team to the affected areas to assess the damage and help those impacted, according to Kul Bahadur Thapa, Chief Administration Officer.
Chairperson Malla said the executive meeting will decide on relief and rehabilitation for the people hardest hit by the flood.
