Monsoon floods have severely hit Sudurpaschim and eastern Nepal, damaging homes, infrastructure, and farmland in several districts.

In Humla, a sudden flood in the Kabadi River destroyed 11 houses in Tanjakot village on Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokhrel said the river, swollen by heavy rain, carried mud and debris, washing away homes, crops, and irrigation canals. No casualties were reported, but the damage is extensive. Authorities could only assess the area after the water receded the next morning.

In Bajura’s Ichhya village, flash floods and landslides on Wednesday night destroyed over a dozen homes, a health post, a ward office, a school, and a suspension bridge, cutting off access to the village. Residents fled in panic as floodwaters rushed through the settlement. No deaths occurred, but infrastructure damage is severe.

Meanwhile, the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project will clean its reservoir on Saturday, August 16, from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm. This may cause changes in the river’s flow, and people are advised to avoid risky activities near the Tamakoshi River during that time.
