Schools in Birgunj will remain closed for three more days after the spread of cholera. According to Birgunj Metropolitan City, all schools will be shut from Wednesday to Friday.
The decision was made on Tuesday during a municipal-level meeting. Teachers and school staff have also been asked to run awareness programs about cholera prevention.
By 6 pm on Monday, the number of confirmed cholera patients in different hospitals of the city had reached 93.
The National Public Health Laboratory confirmed cholera infection in eight out of 10 samples sent from Birgunj. Director Dr. Ranjan Raj Bhatta said stool samples from suspected patients were tested, and eight were found positive.
