Clash in Janakpur over Ganesh idol immersion, police fire tear gas

A clash broke out between the Hindu and Muslim communities at Jhandachowk in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-20, Dhanusha, over the immersion of a Ganesh idol.

The dispute started while taking the idol for immersion through a Muslim settlement, leading to stone-pelting and a fight between both groups.

To control the situation, police fired four rounds of tear gas, said Dhanusha Police spokesperson DSP Barun Bahadur Singh.

The situation in the area remains tense. Nepal Police and Armed Police have been heavily deployed to prevent further incidents.

DSP Singh said no details about injuries have been reported yet.
