Clashes in Janakpur: police fire 30 rounds, 8 injured

In Janakpur, police fired 30 rounds in the air and used 31 rounds of tear gas during a clash between two communities and security forces.

The incident took place on Sunday at Devpura Rupaitha, Janakpurdham-20, after a dispute over removing flags between police and members of the Hindu community.

According to Dhanusha police chief SP Narhari Regmi, police fired 14 dummy bullets and 11 pistol rounds in the air, along with 31 tear gas shells to control the situation.

A 29-year-old local, Laxman Mukhiya, was injured after being hit by police bullets in both knees. Seven police personnel were also injured by stone-pelting. All injured are receiving treatment at Provincial Hospital Janakpur.

A similar clash had broken out on Saturday during Ganesh idol immersion near Jhanda Chowk. Police said the dispute started over removing two green flags tied to a tower light pole, which escalated into violence.
