The Broad Citizen Movement has clearly stated that any plan to bring back the monarchy or remove secularism is unacceptable, even if mediated by the Nepali Army.
In a statement released on Thursday, the movement said, “It is now clear that a conspiracy is being promoted, using the bodies of Gen Z movement martyrs, to restore the monarchy and remove secularism with the army’s support. This is completely unacceptable to us.”
The statement emphasized that the Gen Z movement’s mandate and sacrifices were never meant to undo the republic or end secularism. The protests were not aimed at encouraging unconstitutional involvement by the army.
The Citizen Movement also expressed concern over elements that have infiltrated the Gen Z protests. “From the second day of the protests, organized groups prepared to harm citizens physically, financially, and psychologically are now negotiating at the army headquarters under military supervision. This is alarming and unacceptable,” the statement said.
The movement urged the army to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities while respecting the historical role of the Gen Z movement. It also called for all interactions with reactionary forces to stop immediately. Future discussions and programs should only involve the president’s guidance and oversight.
