- Standings//
A bailey bridge under construction at Hewakhola in Panchthar has collapsed. The bridge broke this afternoon while it was being installed. Five workers were seriously injured in the incident.
The previous bridge over Hewakhola, which is part of the Mechi Highway, was swept away by floods last year. Since then, a temporary diversion had been built for transportation.
Today, workers were preparing to complete the installation of the new bailey bridge before the monsoon. However, it collapsed during the final construction process.
According to Panchthar’s Chief District Officer Arun Pokharel, five workers involved in the construction were seriously injured. The reason for the collapse is still unknown. The injured have been sent for treatment.
