Bajura jeep accident: 13 rescued by army helicopter, 3 killed

A total of 13 people injured in a jeep accident in Bajura’s Himali Rural Municipality-5 were rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter.

The accident happened when a jeep with the number plate Ba Pa 03–001 Ja 0338, overloaded with passengers, lost control while traveling from Kyudi to Kuwadi along a rough road in Ward 5 of the rural municipality.

According to Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary, two people died on the spot, and one more died during the rescue.

Among the injured were the 23-year-old driver Gauri Budha, 35-year-old Banchalal Rokaya, 70-year-old Bhadouri Rokaya, 22-year-old Banchdhan Rokaya, and 45-year-old Bir Bahadur Rokaya. They were flown to Karnali Province Hospital in Surkhet for treatment, said Assistant Chief District Officer Shital Bahadur Rawal.

Rawal said that since all injured could not be taken at once, multiple helicopter trips were made to carry them to Surkhet.

Inspector Chaudhary confirmed that 76-year-old Bijaura Rokaya and 75-year-old Banchkala Rokaya died at the scene, while 35-year-old Juneli Rokaya died during rescue efforts.

After the accident, the Himali Rural Municipality also sent ambulances and health workers to assist in the rescue.
