CAN board meeting set for July 31 to discuss NPL and World Cup plans

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will hold its board meeting on Thursday. The meeting will mainly focus on reviewing the first season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) and preparing for the second season. It will also discuss Nepal’s road to the ICC T20 World Cup.

CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama said the two key topics will be the NPL and the national team’s World Cup journey. “The main focus will be on the NPL and how the national team can progress towards the T20 World Cup,” Lama told Onlinekhabar.

The first edition of the NPL was held last year in November and December. The meeting will review the achievements and challenges from the first season and discuss improvements for the upcoming edition. The date for the player auction for season two has already been set.

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand had earlier mentioned that the board would also discuss the financial report of the first NPL season. There are expectations that the financial details will be made public after the meeting. Several board members had even written a letter to the president requesting the financial report be released. Chand acknowledged the issue and promised improvements, admitting there may have been procedural mistakes.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s national cricket team is preparing for the regional final of the T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific qualifiers, which will be held in October. Some players are currently training in India, while others are practicing in Nepal.

The board will also talk about preparations for Nepal’s historic T20I match against the West Indies in September, as well as review and plan CAN’s annual calendar.
