Chakre Milan released on Rs 1.1 lakh bail in attempted murder case

Chakre Milan (Milan Gurung), known as a local gangster, has been ordered released on bail by the District Court of Bhaktapur.

Judge Ram Prasad Neupane’s bench of Bhaktapur District Court set his bail at Rs 1,10,000.

The hearing on Thursday was not completed, so no court date was set. On Friday, the court completed the statements and preventive custody review in Chakre’s case and issued the bail order.

“Chakre has already paid the set bail. The release process is ongoing,” said DSP Dhundiraj Neupane of Bhaktapur District Police.

A case of attempted murder was filed against Chakre on Thursday. The complaint was related to an incident from one year ago, when his nephew, Manish Rayamajhi, was allegedly attacked at Badda Ko Tawa Restaurant in Sanothimi on 10 Bhadra 2081. The attack was reported by his uncle, Dinesh Kumar Rayamajhi.

The complaint also named 25-year-old Ajit Khawas from Hariwan Municipality-4, Sarlahi, and others, including Chakre. Police had arrested Khawas and started an investigation, but Chakre was not initially made a defendant as his whereabouts were unknown.

It was reported that both of Raymajhi’s pregnant wives were injured in the attack. The new case against Chakre relates to the same incident.

Chakre had been released from Bhaktapur District Police custody only on Wednesday. He was freed on Rs 30,000 bail for a separate charge of misconduct, following Judge Khimanan Bhusal’s order. Because he had another case in Bhaktapur, the police took him back into their custody after that release.

On 15 Saun, Chakre and 46 others were arrested in a joint operation by the Valley Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu District Police. Of them, 28 were later released.

The arrests happened after the police intervened in a commotion at Chakre’s birthday party. The party was taking place at Hotel Sambal in Maharajgunj when police detained the group.
