Chelsea have reached the UEFA Conference League final after a comfortable win over Djurgarden, even while resting many of their regular players. They won the second leg 1-0 on Thursday night and advanced to the final with a 5-1 victory on aggregate.
The final will be played on May 28 in Wroclaw, Poland, where Chelsea will face Real Betis. Betis reached their first-ever European final after drawing 2-2 with Fiorentina in extra time and winning 4-3 on aggregate.
At Stamford Bridge, the only goal came in the 38th minute when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored from Tyrique George’s pass, sealing the win for Chelsea.
“Reaching the final feels amazing. At the start of the season, we didn’t think we’d get this far. Now we’re one game away, and hopefully, we can lift the trophy,” said Dewsbury-Hall.
If Chelsea win this title, they will become the first club to win all major European trophies. The club has already won:
Coach Enzo Maresca made big changes to the team, keeping only Marc Cucurella from the lineup that beat Liverpool 3-1 last Sunday.
16-year-old midfielder Reggie Walsh started for the first time and faced several fouls from opponents. He became the third youngest player to appear for Chelsea in their history when he came off the bench in the first leg.
The winner of the Conference League gets a spot in the Europa League next season, though that may not be important for Chelsea, who are currently fighting for a Champions League spot in the Premier League. They sit in fifth place and will face Newcastle this Sunday.
