A five-member investigation committee has been formed to look into the clash at Kailali District Prison on Friday night, which left one person dead and over 47 injured.

The District Security Committee met on Saturday morning and appointed Assistant Chief District Officer Kiran Joshi as coordinator. Other members include DSP Rajkumar Singh from Nepal Police, DSP Janakraj Panta from Armed Police, investigation officer Dipendra Singh, and administrative officer Shivraj Joshi as member secretary.

The committee has been told to submit its report within 10 days, according to the District Administration Office.

The prison remains tense, with a large number of armed police and other security personnel deployed. Initial reports suggest that daily clashes had been happening between two prisoner groups over the issue of prisoner transfers.

In the latest incident, which happened around midnight on Friday, 40-year-old Bharat Chaudhary from Dhangadhi died and 47 others were injured. Three of the injured are in serious condition and receiving ICU treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital.

Kailali Prison, built for 150 inmates, currently holds more than 700 prisoners.
