A couple died Saturday after being electrocuted while fishing using electric current in the Madeli River, located in Sundar Haraicha Municipality-7, Morang.

According to District Police Office spokesperson DSP Kopila Chudal, the victims have been identified as 58-year-old Purna Bahadur Limbu and his 52-year-old wife Phulmaya Limbu, both local residents.

Preliminary investigations suggest the couple was attempting to catch fish by channeling electricity into the river from a power pole when they were fatally electrocuted under a bridge. Police confirmed both died on the spot.

A team from the Area Police Office in Belbari reached the site and completed legal procedures before sending the bodies to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for autopsy.

Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
