COVID-19 cases rising in India, Nepal begins preparations

COVID-19 cases have been increasing in India over the past few days. According to India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of active cases has reached 6,133.

In the last 24 hours, 378 new cases have been confirmed, while 753 people have recovered. During the same period, 6 people have died from the virus.

The state with the highest number of active cases is Kerala, with 1,950 cases. Other states with high case numbers include Gujarat (822), West Bengal (693), and Delhi (686). Since January 1, 2025, a total of 65 people have died from COVID-19 in India.

As the infection rate rises, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population has started making preparations. Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki said they have been preparing for the past two weeks, considering the recent spread and deaths in India.

He added that health workers at 17 border points and 3 international airports connected to India have been kept on alert at their health desks.
