Cristiano Ronaldo Says Portugal vs Spain Is Bigger Than Just Him vs Yamal

Before the exciting UEFA Nations League final, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo responded to the media buzz about his matchup with Spain’s teenage star Lamine Yamal.

Ronaldo said people should focus on the game between the two nations, not just on him and Yamal.

“There’s a lot of talk about me and Yamal, but this match is about Portugal vs Spain,” said Ronaldo. “Generations change — one comes in, another goes out. It’s normal. I belong to a different generation, and that’s okay.”

Ronaldo Praises Yamal

Ronaldo praised 17-year-old Yamal, calling him a very talented player.

“Everyone is talking about Lamine, and that’s fair — he’s really good,” Ronaldo said. “But Spain also has great players like Nico Williams and Pedri. Their coach, Luis de la Fuente, is also very skilled and disciplined.”

He even compared Yamal to his own son, saying, “He’s just three years older than my son.”

Ronaldo also advised the media not to put too much pressure on the young star.

“He has fun hair, he’s doing well — but please give him space. Let him grow at his own pace. That’s better for football,” he added.

Portugal vs Spain – A Historic Rivalry

Ronaldo first played against Spain in a competitive match during Euro 2004, where Portugal won. He had just begun shining at Sporting Lisbon before moving to Manchester United at age 18.

The Nations League final will kick off at 12:45 AM (Nepali time) on Sunday night. France and Germany are also playing for third place.

Past Champions

Both Portugal and Spain have won the UEFA Nations League before. Portugal won the first edition in 2019, while Spain are the reigning champions from 2023.

This final is not just a clash between two star players, but a proud battle between two football-loving nations with rich histories.
