The Kathmandu District Court has ordered Durga Prasai and six others to be sent to jail for further investigation in connection with the royalist protest held in Tikune.
On Thursday night, Judge Dhruva Raj Karki issued the order, which includes 155 pages of legal reasoning. Along with Prasai, the court has sent Saroj Gautam, Gokarna Shahi, Dandapani Regmi, Sushil Baral, Keshav Basnet, and Kumar Tamang to judicial custody.
These individuals are among the key figures involved in the violent protest that took place on Chaitra 15 (March 28) in Tikune. The government had filed charges against 61 people on Jestha 11 (May 25), including a case of attempted murder.
Out of those accused, the court has released 32 others on bail.
Meanwhile, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Dr. Dhawal Shumsher Rana and senior vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra did not appear in court and have been listed as absconding defendants. Arrest warrants will be issued against them.
The court hearings on whether to keep the accused in custody began on Jestha 20 (June 3), after their statements were recorded. The decision was made late Thursday night following the conclusion of the hearings.
