The young centre-back has a knack for scoring headers.
After securing continental qualification with their Kalinga Super Cup triumph, FC Goa are now reinforcing their backline—and they’ve turned to one of I-League’s rising stars: Ronney Wilson.
The 22-year-old defender from Meghalaya is set to join the Gaurs on a multi-year deal, according to sources close to the club. The final paperwork is expected to be signed soon.
Wilson stood out in an otherwise underwhelming season for Shillong Lajong. Despite the team’s struggles, his consistent performances and leadership at the back caught the attention of scouts across the Indian football circuit. Now, he’s headed to the Indian Super League—ready to learn, compete, and grow.
Born in Meghalaya, Ronney has been a mainstay in Shillong Lajong’s backline this I-League season, making 15 appearances with 2 goals and 1 assist to his name. He’s also turned out for Langsning FC and the SAI Guwahati team in previous years.
Tall, physical, and aggressive in the air, he thrives as a traditional centre-back. But what makes him special is his ability to carry the ball forward and contribute in transitions. He’s known for no-nonsense defending, clean tackles, and being a threat during set pieces—especially with his headers.
With Sandesh Jhingan and Odei Onaindia forming a solid pairing at the back, and Ashish Sangwan and Boris Singh adding width, FC Goa’s defence is already among the best in the league.
But adding Wilson brings depth and long-term potential. He’s expected to feature in competitions like the Durand Cup and Bandodkar Trophy, providing valuable rotation and backup options.
Training alongside experienced pros and under top-level coaching at Fatorda could take Ronney’s game to the next level.
Another smart pickup by FC Goa. A raw talent with big potential, Wilson fits the club’s ethos of developing the next generation while building for immediate success. Keep an eye on him.
