A major fire broke out in Dhangadhi, the main city of Kailali district, on Sunday night. The fire started near NAST College in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-4.
According to police, the fire began at Helen Trade Suppliers, run by local resident Bishwo Prakash Kandel. It quickly spread and caused serious damage.
In total, eight shutters (sections) of businesses were damaged:
To control the fire, 45 Nepal Police officers led by SP Bal Nar Singh Rana, and 25 Armed Police Force personnel led by Inspector Saroj Khatri, were deployed.
The fire started around 10:50 PM due to an electrical short circuit and was brought under control by midnight (12:00 AM) with help from fire engines of Dhangadhi and Godawari municipalities.
The total damage is expected to be large, though police are still collecting full details.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, fire incidents are happening even during the ongoing monsoon. Between the morning of Shrawan 3 and 4 alone, six fire incidents were reported across the country, killing six people and injuring one. A total of 40 families were affected.
