Chelsea will look to continue their strong start at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup when they face Brazilian giants Flamengo on Friday night in Philadelphia.
The Blues began their Group D campaign with a confident 2-0 win over LAFC. Goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez sealed the victory, while debutant Liam Delap impressed off the bench with an assist.
Flamengo also started their tournament with a 2-0 win, beating Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis. Both teams now sit on three points, and a win in this match would secure a spot in the next round and give the winner the upper hand to finish top of the group.
Flamengo are unlikely to make changes to their winning lineup. Former Chelsea star Jorginho is expected to start against his old club. Nicolas de la Cruz may return from injury, likely as a substitute. Wesley could come in at right-back.
Chelsea may make a few changes. Moises Caicedo is doubtful after picking up a knock in their last match. If he doesn’t recover, Andrey Santos is likely to start. Liam Delap could get the nod up front after impressing as a substitute, possibly replacing Nicolas Jackson. Reece James should return after being subbed off at halftime as a precaution.
Flamengo (4-2-3-1): Rossi; Wesley, Ortiz, Pereira, Ayrton Lucas; Pulgar, Jorginho; Gerson, De Arrascaeta, Luiz Araujo; Pedro
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Santos; Neto, Palmer, Madueke; Delap
Flamengo: No injuries or suspensions
Chelsea:
Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Flamengo
Both sides are in form, but Chelsea’s depth and attacking creativity could give them the edge in a tightly contested game. Flamengo will be tough to break down, but the Blues might just edge it with their pace and quality.
