The District Administration Office in Khotang has urged residents living along the banks of the Sunkoshi River to stay alert due to the risk of flooding.

According to a public notice issued by the office, heavy rainfall is expected in Tibet, China, until Asar 7 (June 21), which could cause flooding. As the Sunkoshi River flows through parts of Khotang, the authorities have warned that rising water levels could affect nearby settlements.

The Sunkoshi passes through Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Diprung Chuichumma, Khotehang, Barahpokhari, and Jantedhunga rural municipalities of Khotang.

The warning follows similar alerts issued by the Sindhupalchok District Administration after receiving flood information from Chinese authorities. Khotang officials issued their notice on Friday.

Assistant Chief District Officer Sagar Sah released the statement, and the information has been shared with all affected local governments.

Last year, on Ashoj 12 (28 September), a flood in the Sunkoshi swept away a motorable concrete bridge at Phoksingtar on the Diktel–Gaighat road section and displaced several local families.

Officials have asked locals to remain prepared and take necessary precautions as weather conditions may worsen.
