Hayoo Society Condemns False Remarks About Sindhuli-Based Hayoo Family

The Hayoo community has expressed concern over negative comments made about Urmila Hayoo’s family, who went missing from Golanjor Rural Municipality–6 in Sindhuli and were later found in Pokhara.

After Urmila went missing, many posts and news stories started appearing on social media. Some people began mocking and making baseless comments about the family. In response, the Hayoo Society of Nepal released a statement on Tuesday objecting to such remarks.

The statement said that some people were claiming—without proof—that the family ran away because they were afraid of repaying loans after receiving government benefits, or that they were causing trouble to others. The Hayoo Society called these accusations unfair and untrue.

They also said that the family’s temporary move and their decisions about work were personal choices but were wrongly presented in the media.

“Our Hayoo community is an indigenous group that lives with hard work, honesty, and self-respect. These baseless and careless rumors not only trouble the family but also hurt the feelings and dignity of our whole community,” said Lakshman Hayoo, president of Hayoo Society Nepal, in the statement.

The Society also requested the media to report news only based on facts. It called for respectful language toward the Hayoo community and urged local, provincial, and central governments to help the family resettle.
