Some areas in the Madhesh Province have received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. These rains have come as a relief after a long period of drought during the monsoon season.

Due to the lack of rain for weeks, the region had been declared drought-hit by the government, and paddy planting had been severely affected. But rain since Friday has brought some relief to farmers and residents.

As per the latest measurements taken this morning:

  • Tulsi Center in Dhanusha recorded 63.8 mm of rain
  • Hardinath in Dhanusha recorded 51 mm
  • Gaur in Rautahat recorded 44.6 mm
  • Amlekhgunj in Bara recorded 46.4 mm

In meteorology, rainfall between 50 to 100 mm in 24 hours is considered heavy, while 10 to 50 mm is considered moderate.

Other districts of Madhesh also received light to moderate rainfall. Sarlahi saw 37.6 mm, and Gaushala in Mahottari recorded 32.4 mm. Rainfall in Siraha and Saptari was lower, with light rain occurring overnight and stopping by morning.

Weather officials say that more moderate to heavy rain is likely on Sunday as the monsoon low-pressure line moves northward toward Nepal.
