The lifetime box office collection of the top 5 highest-earning Nepali films of 2025 has been made public. These five movies have earned the most revenue at the domestic box office as of July 2025.

Unko Sweater leads the list with over Rs. 11 crore

Topping the list is Unko Sweater, a drama film that has become the highest-grossing Nepali film of the year, collecting Rs. 11.34 crore (gross) nationwide. The film tells a powerful story set in the rural hills of eastern Nepal, exploring issues of caste, class, and human connection.

Directed and written by Naveen Chauhan, the movie features strong performances from actors like Bipin Karki, Miruna Magar, Prakriti Limbu, and Alex Paras. It opened strongly with Rs. 5.75 crore in its first week and went on to cross Rs. 10 crore — becoming the first film of 2025 to reach that mark.

The film’s popularity was boosted by its emotional story, word-of-mouth praise, and its viral soundtrack, including hit songs like “Kafle” and “Makhmali.” It also received critical acclaim for its social message and grounded storytelling.

Anjila takes second place with Rs. 8.86 crore

In second place is Anjila, a biographical sports drama based on the life of Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain of Nepal’s national women’s football team. The movie shows her journey from rural struggles to becoming a national sports icon.

Directed by Milan Chams, the film stars Anjila Subba herself, along with Dayahang Rai, Srijana Subba, Maotse Gurung, and others. It received wide praise for its inspirational message and realistic portrayal of women’s football in Nepal. The movie grossed Rs. 8.86 crore and was screened in more than 16 countries, helping it earn both national and international recognition.

Box office performance of other top films

The third-highest earner is Laaj Sharanam, which made Rs. 4.70 crore. Although fewer details are available about this film, it connected with local audiences and had a successful run in theaters.

In fourth place is Pitambar, with Rs. 4.56 crore. It’s another mid-range commercial success that did well in the domestic market.

Hostel 3, part of the popular Hostel film series, earned Rs. 4.12 crore and stands at fifth. The franchise has a strong youth fanbase, and this latest sequel continued the trend with solid box office numbers.

  2. Anjila – Rs. 8.86 crore

A strong year for Nepali cinema

The year 2025 has proven to be a strong one for Nepali films. According to film data, domestic movies are earning more than international ones at the local box office. By July, Nepali films had already collected over Rs. 151 crore, showing strong support from local audiences.

This success is part of a growing trend in Nepali cinema. Story-driven films like Unko Sweater and Anjila have not only performed commercially but also earned critical praise. Meanwhile, franchises like Hostel continue to attract younger viewers.

Last year’s record-breaking hit Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi still holds the all-time top spot in Nepali cinema, with lifetime domestic earnings of over Rs. 46 crore and total global earnings above Rs. 70 crore. However, 2025 has shown that new films can also draw large audiences and build strong box office numbers.

The top five films of 2025 show the diversity and growing strength of the Nepali film industry — from heartfelt rural dramas to sports biopics and franchise entertainment. As more Nepali films succeed in both storytelling and earnings, the industry looks set for even greater growth in the coming years.
