A woman infected with COVID-19 has died at Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar.
The 39-year-old woman from Suryodaya Municipality in Ilam had been admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning, where she passed away during treatment in the emergency ward, according to hospital manager Dipesh Rai.
She had been sick for the past seven days, experiencing breathing difficulties and fever. On Monday, she was tested at Birtacity Hospital in Birtamod, where she tested positive for COVID-19. She was then taken to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar for further treatment.
After her death, the hospital handed over her body to the police, Rai said.
COVID-19 cases have been rising in Koshi Province recently. According to the provincial health ministry, eight people have tested positive: four from Jhapa, and two each from Morang and Ilam.
