Jhapa van-pickup accident kills one, injures four of same family
One person died and four members of the same family were injured in a collision between a Maruti van and a pickup truck at Biring Bridge, Kanakai Municipality-8, Jhapa.
The accident happened around 8:30 pm on Tuesday when a Maruti van (Me 1 Cha 3440) and a Bolero pickup (Me 1 Cha 5446) crashed into each other. The van driver, 29-year-old Nawaraj Baskota from Shivsatakshi-7, Jhapa, died in the accident.
Police said he was taken to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment but doctors declared him dead.
Those injured were Prithvinath Sah, 40, his wife Punam Devi Sah, 37, their 14-year-old son Prasanna Sah, and 9-year-old daughter Prinsa Sah, all from Shivsatakshi-7. They are being treated at the same hospital.
Police have taken into custody the Bolero driver, 24-year-old Suman Paudel of Mahalaxmi-8, Dhankuta.
