Journalist Sabina Karki, who was injured during the teachers’ protest on Sunday afternoon, has been taken to Tilganga Eye Hospital for treatment.
Karki, who was reporting from the protest site, was hurt in her eye during the clash between teachers and police. She was first taken to the Civil Hospital in Baneshwor and later referred to the Trauma Center. However, due to the nature of her eye injury, she was shifted to Tilganga Eye Hospital for specialized treatment.
A police officer on duty carried Karki to a police vehicle to rush her to the hospital, and a video of this moment is now going viral on social media.
Karki works as a journalist for Prime Television.
According to Raju Bhandari, the broadcast director at Prime Television, Karki’s injury was caused by a police water cannon.
“She is now receiving treatment at Tilganga. Surgery might be needed just below her eye,” he said.
Today marked the 26th day of the teachers’ protest demanding a teacher- and employee-friendly law. A clash broke out when police used force after protesters tried to enter a restricted area.
Teacher union leaders, however, claimed they were holding a peaceful protest and accused the government of deliberately creating chaos by planting troublemakers among them.
