Kantipur Max to broadcast English Premier League live

Kantipur Max Television will broadcast English Premier League (EPL) football matches live this season. The new season starts on Friday night with defending champions Liverpool playing Bournemouth.

Kantipur Media Group CEO Mahesh Swar announced on Tuesday that the world’s most popular football league will be shown live on Kantipur for the first time on Nepali television. Kantipur has recently also broadcast the Indian Premier League cricket and Wimbledon tennis live.

Swar said broadcasting the EPL was a long-time dream. “We wanted all Nepalis to have easy access to watch the Premier League. We believe this will make EPL viewing even easier in Nepal,” he said.

Kantipur will stream matches on the eKantipur app, Kantipur Television app, KantipurTV.com, and the upcoming Kantipur Max app. The EPL began in 1992 as the modern version of England’s top football division, which started in 1888.

Kantipur TV has signed a sponsorship agreement with Unilever Nepal Limited. The deal was signed by Kantipur Media Group Business Head Sagar KC and Unilever Chief Finance Officer Ayush Sharma. Unilever’s Clear shampoo will be the main sponsor of the EPL on Kantipur.

Unilever Managing Director Alman Mukherjee said Clear shampoo is already linked with the Women’s World Cup and has Cristiano Ronaldo as its brand ambassador. He added that EPL’s global audience is even bigger than India’s population, with growing popularity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The EPL is the most-watched football competition in the world, with an estimated 4.7 billion viewers. In England, each match last season had an average attendance of 40,421, the highest among all football leagues. Stadiums are almost always full, and UEFA ranks EPL as Europe’s number one league.

Liverpool are the defending champions, having won the English top division 20 times in total. This was their second Premier League title since the league’s modern format began. Manchester United have also won the top division 20 times. In Nepal, EPL is the most popular league, especially among young fans, with official fan clubs for Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
