6-hour load shedding starts in Chitwan from today, here’s the schedule

From today, some areas in eastern Chitwan are facing load shedding for up to six hours a day, split into two time slots.

The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Chanauli Distribution Center has released a schedule for the power cuts.

According to the center, the load shedding is necessary due to an increase in electricity use for irrigation. Because of extreme heat and lack of rain during the rice planting season, demand from irrigation users has gone up.

The power cuts will affect areas supplied through the Narayani-Madi, Meghauli-Bijaynagar-Shukranagar, and Jagatpur-Rampur feeders under the Chanauli center.

The center explained that the 33 kV “dog conductor” line coming from the Bharatpur 132/33 kV substation cannot handle more than 300 amperes of electricity. However, due to high demand, up to 450 amperes are currently flowing, which is more than the line can safely carry.

To solve this problem, a new 33 kV transmission line is under construction to supply electricity from the Baseni substation. This project began in the last fiscal year.

Load shedding schedule:

  1. Narayani-Madi feeders: 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  2. Meghauli-Bijaynagar–Shukranagar feeders: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  3. Jagatpur-Rampur feeders: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
