Police in Sindhuli District have launched an investigation after the body of 22-year-old Ashman Tamang was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound in the Piurikhole forest of Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality-1. The victim, a resident of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-5, Bandipur, was found by local authorities approximately three kilometers south of his home.
Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwoj Subedi, head of the District Police Office Sindhuli, stated that it remains unclear whether the incident was a homicide or an accidental discharge of a firearm. The Amaale Police Post first alerted district headquarters after discovering the body with a gunshot wound near the navel area.
Upon receiving the report, joint teams from the Amaale Police Post, Bastipur Area Police Office, and Khurkot Area Police Office were dispatched to the scene late at night to secure the area. Preliminary findings indicate that the projectile struck the victim in the abdominal region.
Investigators recovered a broken muzzle-loader gun near the deceased. Additionally, a bag carried by Tamang contained materials resembling gunpowder along with fragments of iron and glass, which are typically used as improvised ammunition.
The body has been transported to Sindhuli Hospital for a post-mortem examination following the completion of the initial crime scene report. Local authorities have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatality.
