Man kills girlfriend in Nepalgunj, turns himself in
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Nepalgunj for killing his girlfriend.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Nirmala Thapa, originally from Dailekh and working at Sunakhari Restaurant in BP Chowk, Nepalgunj. Police said she was strangled to death with a shawl at a rented room in Belaspur.
Prakash Sunar, a resident of Bardiya and a staff member at Swastik Cottage in Nepalgunj, has been arrested for the crime. He worked there as a captain.
According to police, after killing Nirmala on Wednesday night, Prakash called her younger sister and informed her about the incident. Around 2 AM, he went to the District Police Office in Banke himself and confessed to killing his girlfriend.
Police confirmed that Prakash is already married and has a wife, a son, and a daughter living in Bardiya. He had been living with Nirmala in Belaspur, Nepalgunj-12, for the past three years.
The reason behind the murder is still unknown, and further investigation is ongoing.
