Manchester City started their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign with a 2-0 win over Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca in Group G.
City scored early in the 2nd minute through Phil Foden. Later in the 42nd minute, Jeremy Doku added another goal to give City a strong 2-0 lead by halftime.
City rested some of their star players and gave young talents a chance to start. One of them, Ryan Cherki, impressed on his debut. However, late in the match, City’s Rico Lewis received a red card, leaving the team with 10 players. The game was briefly stopped when Wydad fans threw flares onto the pitch.
In Group H, Spanish club Real Madrid played a thrilling 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal. Real Madrid took the lead in the 34th minute with a goal from young player Gonzalo Garcia. But in the 41st minute, Ruben Neves equalized for Al Hilal with a penalty.
In the second half, Real Madrid got another penalty chance, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a brilliant save to deny the goal.
Meanwhile, in Thursday morning’s match, FC Salzburg defeated Pachuca FC 2-1.
