Matheus Cunha Joins Manchester United to Lead Club’s Revival

Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha says he joined Manchester United with the goal of helping the club rise again after one of the worst seasons in its history.

Cunha is the first major signing for United this transfer window. The club, which has won the English league 20 times, is now going through a rebuilding phase under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Last season, Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League — their worst ever. They also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and missed out on the Champions League. The defeat in Bilbao marked the first time since the 2014/15 season that United failed to qualify for any European competition.

Despite the club’s struggles, Cunha was not discouraged. He officially joined United from Wolves for £62.5 million. Last season, he scored 17 goals in all competitions and was named Wolves’ Player of the Season.

The 26-year-old said, “It might sound like a simple phrase, but for me, this is a dream come true.” While many fans are unsure about his move, especially given United’s recent decline, Cunha said he has always dreamed of playing for the club.

“I know last season was very tough, but I’ve always wanted to play for United. For me, no other club compares,” he said.

Cunha has supported Manchester United since childhood, inspired by Wayne Rooney and the 2008 Champions League-winning team. He aims to help the club return to its former glory.

“Every player who comes to United remembers the club’s proud history — the Premier League titles, the Champions League triumphs. I’m here because I believe we can reach that level again. I’m ready to take on that responsibility,” he added.

Recently, Cunha also helped Brazil beat Paraguay 1–0 in a World Cup qualifier, assisting a goal by Vinicius Junior. His arrival is expected to strengthen United’s attacking power, which was weak last season.
