Michael Ward, the BAFTA-winning actor charged with rape and sexual assault

Michael Ward, the 27-year-old BAFTA-winning actor known for his roles in Top Boy and Blue Story, has been charged with serious sexual offences. The Metropolitan Police confirmed he faces two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault linked to one woman. The alleged incidents took place in January 2023.

Police and legal response

Detective Superintendent Scott Ware said police are supporting the woman who came forward and understand the challenges involved in such cases. The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charges after reviewing the evidence.

Ward is due to appear at Thames Magistrates Court in East London on August 28. After the charges were made public, the actor issued a statement denying all accusations.
