The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology says the monsoon will become active across all of Nepal within one week.
This year, the monsoon entered the eastern part of Nepal 15 days earlier than usual. Now, it’s expected to spread across the entire country soon.
According to Shanti Kandel, a senior meteorologist at the department, the monsoon is currently active around Koshi Province and is in the process of moving further.
“There’s a chance of light to moderate rain in every province, and some places might even see heavy rain,” said Kandel. “It looks like the monsoon will be fully active in Nepal very soon, within a week.”
She explained that while the monsoon winds are currently only in Koshi Province, conditions are becoming favorable for it to advance. “We expect the monsoon to progress over the next week,” she added.
Kandel also mentioned that all provinces are likely to see light to heavy rainfall in the coming days. She noted that this year, both the maximum and minimum temperatures across the country are expected to be higher than average, along with the rain.
“This year, the monsoon arrived in eastern Nepal 15 days early. We had predicted increased rainfall activity starting Wednesday or Thursday,” Kandel said. “True to our predictions, rainfall activity has been increasing nationwide, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming days.”
